B.A., LL.B.
Barrister & Solicitor

Mark Halfyard graduated with his B.A. in legal studies and political science from Carleton University in 2001, graduating at the top of his faculty, and obtained his LL.B., cum laude, from the University of Ottawa. While at law school, Mark assisted in establishing the University of Ottawa Innocence Project and did a clerkship with the Regional Senior Judge of the Ontario Provincial Court. Before joining Pinkofskys, Mark worked at the Crown Law Office - Criminal.

Mark practices solely in the area of criminal appeals. He has argued all manner of appeals (murder, assault, drugs, etc.) at the Ontario Court of Appeal and at the Superior Court of Justice. He has a particular interest in cases that involve racial bias and Charter violations. His recent decision in R. v. Wilson places an additional onus on the police to videotape alleged ‘confessions’ or have the evidence be considered suspect at trial.

Mark will be dauntless and diligent in bringing any appeal before the Superior Court, the Court of Appeal for Ontario or the Supreme Court of Canada.

A criminal conviction does not have to be the end of the road.
